Addison's story - SMA

In 2023, our second daughter Addison was born at McMaster. Within 3 days we were contacted by the Dr Tarnopolsky, letting us know that Addison had SMA, which was discovered through newborn screening. Within 26 days, Addison was given Zolgenza, and we are forever grateful. It has changed the trajectory of her life and our future. She was born 3 weeks early (a planned c-section), which was a huge reason for her success. 

Her 5 year old sister, Everly, has a best friend in life now. Addison has progressed as a normal and strong, 2.5 year old, and without this screening and intervention, she may have never even lived to be this age.
