Heart Month

As we recognize Heart Month, we extend our warmest appreciation to the dedicated teams screening newborns across Ontario for critical congenital heart disease (CCHD). Your commitment to early identification and timely care continues to strengthen newborn health outcomes across the province.

CCHD screening is an essential part of giving babies the healthiest start. Screening benefits asymptomatic, term or near-term babies. It is designed to identify affected newborns who may appear well, but have underlying hypoxemia or a difference between pre and post ductal oxygen saturation levels. Thanks to your expertise and collaboration, families benefit from a strong, reliable program that ensures critical heart conditions are identified when it matters most.

To all our partners, screeners, and clinical teams - thank you for your dedication and the compassion you bring to every newborn. Your work saves lives, and we are incredibly grateful for the role you play in this province-wide effort.
